World Class Fishing at a Full Service
Wilderness Lodge
The lodge is on a wide spit that rises
gently out of a beautiful fjord called The South Arm of Ugak Bay.
AlpenView opened it's premiere season on June 10, 2000 under the
experienced management of Dave Jones.
Fishing
Fishing is the bread and butter activity
at AlpenView. Ugak Bay provides a world class saltwater fishery
for silver, king and pink salmon, halibut, lingcod and a variety
of rock fish. The streams draining into Ugak Bay offer great freshwater
fishing for sockeye, silver, pink and chum salmon and dolly varden.
AlpenView maintains a variety of boats to access these fisheries,
the queen of which is the C/V FINLANDER. Both fly and conventional
tackle are used throughout these fisheries and are provided to
our guests. See our Fishing page for
more information.

the move in Ugak Bay and at rest on her mooring.
Guided Fly-out Fishing
The fly-out portion of the fishing
program opens up many freshwater rivers and lakes on the Kodiak
Archipelago. This provides some great fly fishing for salmon,
rainbow trout and dolly varden. The fishing is world class and
the flights themselves are exciting and beautiful. See our Fishing page for more information.
Take home fish
The lodge has a smoker, vacuum packer
and a freezer so fish cleaning, freezing and/or smoking are available.
Space is limited and so is mother nature so we ask that guests
don't get carried away.
Don't want to fish all day, every
day?
Other activities offered at AlpenView
are designed to satisfy a broad range of interest. In this way
we strive to be an entertaining destination for the whole family
and/or group of friends. Some visitors to Alaska are driven by
an interest in fishing, some by wildlife and others are interested
in remote relaxation. Whatever your interests in visiting remote
Alaska, the staff at AlpenView will do it's best to accommodate
you.
Wildlife Viewing and Photography
Many animals make frequent appearances
around Ugak Bay. Kodiak brown bear, eagle, puffin and whale are
just the beginning. One of the best ways to enjoy the wildlife
is kayaking. See our Wildlife Viewing
page for more information.
Kayaks
are available for touring the South Arm. This is a great way to
see the extensive marine life in the intertidal zone.
Hiking
in the area can be as casual as a stroll along the beach or as
intense as class three mountaineering. A new trail to the high
peaks starts at the lodge's back door.
Hunting for
blacktail deer opens in August. There is no guided hunting out
of AlpenView but guests are welcome to hunt on their own.

Round trip sea plane transportation from the City of Kodiak to

An Exclusive Six Guest Maximum
The lodge takes a maximum of six guests
at a time. Guests will not get the feeling that they are just
one of the crowd. This small group size assures that each guest
will receive a great deal of personal attention from the staff.
Lodging
The lodge great room includes the dining
and living areas under it's vaulted ceiling. The living area drops
two feet below the dining area so guests in both can enjoy the
spectacular view through the sixteen foot high walls of windows.
The three guest rooms are shared, two have private bathrooms.
There are also two shared bathrooms with showers. A popular feature
is our banya (wood fired steam bath). The banya is a traditional
form of bathing in Alaska and, it's fun!
