King salmon are accessed in saltwater by traveling and fishing from boats out of the lodge. Most saltwater kings are taken while trolling with down-riggers. Several other species are caught while trolling so there is a variety in the catch. It's common to catch halibut, sea bass, silver salmon and ling cod while trolling for kings. Several kings are taken while jigging for halibut and silver salmon. In the big ocean you never know what may happen. The largest kings taken by AlpenView anglers are taken in saltwater and some have exceeded 60 pounds. Saltwater king salmon are available throughout the lodge season (July, August and September). The best saltwater King fishing usually occurs in late July and early August.

King salmon are accessed in freshwater by visiting the out camp. Freshwater kings are taken with fly, spin and bait-casting gear. The king run on the Ayakulik River is one of the world finest and double figure days (10+ kings) are commonplace. Ayakulik kings average 23 pounds and some have exceeded 40. Freshwater king fishing is best in June and early July.
