Alaska Rainbow Trout Fishing

Fly-outs are the best for rainbow trout

Rainbows do occur in several systems around the lodge and on the Ayakulik but not in targetable numbers. Kodiak’s finest rainbow stream is accessed by plane. Rainbows are fished entirely in freshwater by wading and walking along the banks. At AlpenView we fly fish for rainbow, 3 to 5 weight rods with floating line work the best. They are intermixed with Dolly Varden and both fish respond to similar presentations. On our favorite rainbow stream, 50 fish days are the norm, 33% of which are rainbow. They average 1 pound and some have exceeded 5. Rainbows are available from July through October.
